Worcester County Development Meet

This is the first time we have competed at the new Worcester Pool, with swimmers being held in the Sports Hall and being called in to the pool for their swims. Brilliant organisation, the whole day went swimmingly!! Excellent marshalling by Cindy Cape and Anne Jones. We had 20 swimmers competing, a mixture of all squads, some seasoned open meet attendees, some first timers. Steve and I were team managers with Dave Granger on poolside for the warm up and throughout the meet to give guidance and feedback. The swimmers behaviour was brilliant, they did the club proud.

Looking through the results we did really well โ€“ out of 80 swims we racked up 45 PBs ๐Ÿ˜Š (almost all swimmers achieved at least one PB) but we did have 13 DQs ๐Ÿ™

We had :
4 Gold โ€“ Nathan Gilbert (50 Fly, 50 Back & 100 Free) Lissy Henly (50 Back)
2 Silver โ€“ Nathan Gilbert (100 IM) and Sam Parker (100 Free)
7 Bronze โ€“ Sam Parker (100 Fly, 50 Breast, 50 Back) Lissy Henly (100 Back & 50 Free), Nathan Gilbert (50 Free), Dan Jones (50 Back).

To finish, the 8 fastest girls and boys in the 100 IM are asked to compete in the Skins. The competitors swim 50m races back to back with just a short rest between each round. In each round the slowest swimmer is eliminated until we have a winner. The stroke for the first race is drawn by the referee, the subsequent strokes are drawn by the eliminated swimmer. Nathan and Sam were picked to compete in the Boys Skins and swam brilliantly โ€“ Sam came 7th after a close 50 fly race, Nathan held out to finish a fabulous 4th. It was an exciting way to finish the meet and brilliant that two of our swimmers were involved.

  1. Sounds fantastic. Really impressive haul of Pbs and great that Dave was there to see first hand the areas for improvement. Well done to all the swimmers and the volunteers who gave up their time to make it happen. Thank you. Maybe we should introduce skins to the summer champs? ๐Ÿ˜
